Party City's Got a Little Something for Everyone

Date Posted: 10/4/2006

ROCKAWAY, N.J., Oct 03, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Ghosts, ghouls and assorted goblins have no doubt secured themselves a spot in the Halloween Costume Hall of Fame as true trick-or-treat classics. Hollywood bad-guys, like Freddy and Jason will inevitably rear their ugly heads at least a dozen times every Halloween. But this year, Party City has placed its bet for the best selling costume of 2006 - and they're hoping to strike pirate gold.

"Pirates are huge this year," says Mary Ellen Turner, Vice President of Seasonal Merchandise at Party City. "And they come in all shapes and sizes, from toddlers to adults. We think customers will find a lot of them on their doorsteps this Halloween night."

But the pirates won't be alone. Superheroes and cartoon icons, such as Superman, Batman, Supergirl and Power Rangers are all taking their places among the top-ranked costumes for 2006 - some of them returning champions. Not to be outdone, Disney princesses are making their mark with young girls, while mystical fairies, vampires, and sexier versions of classic characters, Miss Muffett, Little Red Riding Hood and Oz's own Miss Dorothy are catching the attention of older female teens and adults.

Zombies, crypt masters and the now infamous Scream character remain ever-popular among males, both young and old. But if humor is preferred, Turner says that Party City sees plenty of that as well. "Chick Magnet is a big one," she says. "No matter how many times people see it, it still gets a laugh." The costume, a giant horseshoe-shaped magnet with small, stuffed chicks attached to it, is one of Party City's best sellers.

Even infants are getting in on the act with top sellers ranging from ladybugs to devils to a Wonder Bread bunting for those chilly Halloween nights. "There's something for everyone," Ms. Turner says. "You're never to young - or old - to go trick-or-treating."
